Access to Luang Prabang
For the last few years, the country has been opening up to the outside world. Luang Prabang, which is the centre for tourism, is a bit lost in the jungle. They have gradually seen the means for reaching this town, multiply and become easier each year. The roads are in good condition, the waterways without danger, and air travel has developed. Options are now numerous and can be afforded by everybody.

There are no roads or air shuttles directly between Myanmar (ex Burma) and Laos. The only links are through Thailand (Bangkok or Chiang Mai), Malaysia, China, India or Singapore which go through Yangoon, the capital of Burma.

Thailand is by far, the country that is the most used to get into Laos. From Bangkok, Chiang Mai, passing by Nong Kai or the South, Thailand has many International frontier posts that deliver visas to tourists, with only a few formalities which are quickly cleared up.
